Friends

My friends really are the colors of my lives. Without you guys, the days truly would be all gray.

A couple of friends brought me gorgeous pink roses for my birthday (along with balloons and lunch!) yesterday, then my friend Su (who runs the World's Best Flower Shop) whipped up an amazing fragrant bouquet after I stopped by to say hi.

I have friends I've known decades  (OH MY GOD I'M OLD) who stay in touch by email. I have the whole group of friends who I met back in 1998 when I was pregnant with Kayla and they were pregnant with children being born at the same time. This email list is so much more than an email list. I have "in real life" friends who insist I come out of my house or office to do things like have lunch.

What color you guys add to my life ... thanks!

Of course that's premium. Regular will run you about 20 cents a gallon less.  So glad I drive a Big Old SUV.

Wednesday, yawn

Hot dog!

 

Walking in the park one spring a few years ago, my daughter – she must have been four or five – said “Mom! It smells like baseball!”

She was inhaling the intoxicating scent of newly mowed grass – and to us that means baseball.

Because there are 10 years between my oldest child and my youngest, the little ones spent many hours at events for their big brother. Little League is no exception. 

My 16-year-old son, Granger, played from T-ball to Juniors in the Tri-Cities Little League in Cupertino. My youngest, Walter, was born on Opening Day 2001 – the only opening ceremony I ever missed during his career. Kayla, who is eight, spent many Saturdays with me on the bleachers.

Now it’s Walter’s turn to play, and his team had Opening Day 2007 last Saturday. We now live in the Cupertino American Little League boundaries, and will play our first game next weekend.

Did I mention I’m the team manager?

Dancing water

Kayla shed shoes and socks to dance with the fountains at the new Cupertino Library plaza today.

Thank heaven it’s spring in Silicon Valley: I'm tired of washing socks. We’ve muddled through the fall and winter wearing seasonally appropriate socks and shoes, but I’m relieved to believe I can finally stop scrambling for socks for my younger two kids in a few weeks when we bring out the sandals.

Today, my kids played barefoot while dancing with the water fountain at the Cupertino Library/City Hall plaza.

Big wishes

My little guy is six. Hard to believe. He made six wishes -- seems fair to me. This was his "home" party -- his "real" party is Saturday with his friends at Sky High Sports -- the trampoline place.

On having good friends

My first post is up on the Silicon Valley Mom's Bog:

Every year on a late-winter evening, you’ll find me, my kids and my out-of-town friends sitting and laughing in lawn chairs along Kearny Street in San Francisco, taking in the Chinese New Year parade.

We’ve been there in the rain, huddled under garbage bags we made into slickers. It’s been so cold I had to hold a couple of toddlers on my lap the whole time just to keep myself (oh yeah, and them) warm. This year was perfection – a gentle warmth that made us sit on our blankets instead of huddle beneath.
